Middle School

DNB Middle school Diploma

Preparation

CNED courses and FASN teachers prepare 9th grade students for the “Brevet des collèges”. In particular, they take “mock” written tests, as they would in France.

Free candidate (or individual) status

Students are registered as independent candidates (candidats libres)  for the DNB. In France, the continuous test scores count for the DNB. This is not the case when you are a registered independent candidate. The continuous assessments (i.e., the grades obtained during the year at EFAN) do not count for DNB. The continuous tests is replaced, for each subject concerned, by a test at the end of the year. These official tests are held at Rochambeau High School in Washington. The calendar of events is different from that of France (end of May-beginning of June).

Taking the tests

Students take the same written tests as a candidate who has studied in France:

  • French;
  • history-geography-moral and civic education;
  • mathematics;
  • Choice of 2 subjects from the following 3: physics-chemistry, life and earth sciences or technology.

Students also take a written test in foreign language.
