Vaccination
Before you leave
- Update your child’s vaccinations. To avoid duplicate vaccinations, request serology tests for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis A & B, and imperatively, chickenpox.
- Have the Health record up to date. This will be used as proof of vaccination, show vaccination compliance or contraindications. YOU MUST BRING THE VACCINATION RECORD TO THE US MEDICAL EXAMINATION
- Have your French doctor provide a certificate in English indicating the French vaccinations, their translations, and injections dates in American format (MM/DD/YYYY) (see example below). Important: the certificate must state that if a person has received the tuberculosis vaccine (BCG), any subsequent test will always be positive.
After your arrival
Before any appointment, the student must undergo a physical exam at an American medical practice to validate vaccinations and complete the Commonwealth of Virginia School Entrance Health Form and the Certification of Immunization (school health form for school entry).
This medical examination can be done at one of these American military health facilities, once you are enrolled in the TRICARE system.
– Naval Medical Center at Sewells Point : NAVSTA Norfolk BHC (tricare.mil)
– Boone BHC : Boone BHC (tricare.mil)
– Ocean BHC : Oceana BHC (tricare.mil)
– Porthsmouth Tricare : Home (tricare.mil)
You can also visit a civilian doctor in the TRICARE network.
Booster shots for vaccines can be easily administered in the USA.
All vaccinations listed in Part II of the form are mandatory. If a child’s vaccination status is uncertain or incomplete, they will receive the required vaccine. It is possible to request an exemption for personal or religious reasons.
